Japan and Indonesia Agree on EPA in Principle
Japan and Indonesia reached an accord in principle on the Economic Partnership Agreement centered on the pillar of Free Trade Agreement at the summit meeting between Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, and Mr. Susio Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia on November 28. In the agriculture area, products sensitive to Japan like rice, wheat and barley, dairy products and beef are exempt from tariff elimination. The agreement is expected to come into force by the end of 2007. This marks the seventh country with which Japan has reached EPA accord in principle. Japan entered in Indonesian negotiation in July 2005 and had six sessions.
