Prime Minister Abe Wants Consideration on Importance of Agriculture during Summit Meeting for Japan-Australia EPA

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Australia's Prime Minister John Howard talked on the phone for some 15 minutes on May 24. With regard to the negotiation on the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) that started in April between Japan and Australia, Prime Minister Howard told that he welcomed a meeting to be held. Following this, Prime Minister Abe said that the Japan side would like to engage in the constructive discussion with recognition of the importance of agriculture in Japan in particular while both parties would continuously give due consideration to sensitive issues each other.

They agreed to cooperate in countermeasures against global warming that would be one of agendas at the summit meeting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Conference (APEC) in September.
