Celebration for the Resumption of Rice Export to China

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and JA group held a ceremony on June 29 in Tokyo to celebrate the resumption of Japanese rice export to China. Prime Minister Abe, who attended the ceremony after the Diet session, referred to an initiative to increase the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, and processed food products to 1 trillion yen by 2013 and mentioned it would be an important and historic first step, showing expectation toward the future expansion in export.

Attendees included Agriculture Minister Norihiko Akagi, President Isamu Miyata of JA ZENCHU, Chairman Takeji Yanagisawa of JA Zen-noh, and Mr. Takahiro Kasahara of JA Uonuma Minami in Niigata and Mr. Kotaro Shibuya of JA Kamiyotsuba representing producers respectively. Mr. Kasahara happily told that it (24 ton of rice exported as the first shipment) was not a large number in any way, but had an immeasurable impact on producers.
